Australian shoppers who like to buy goods and services from overseas are facing a renewed push to pay GST.
The Australian retailers have constantly complained about the loophole saying it puts them at a disadvantage with the overseas competitors and the federal government is reopening the debate that it is costing Australian jobs.
Currently, following GST ruling exist
Goods with a declared or assessed value not exceeding $1,000
Goods arrived in Australia by mail and declared or assessed less than $1,000 AUD is imported free of duty, taxes and import processing charges
Goods with a declared or assessed value are exceeding $1,000
Goods arrived in Australia exceeding $1,000 AUD must pay any liability for duty, taxes and import processing charges in full before Australia Post can deliver goods to you.
